IN THEIR WORDS
WE’VE HELPED HUNDREDS OF CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE TO ESCAPE CHILD EXPLOITATION. HERE’S WHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY ABOUT SAFE & SOUND.
I would recommend Safe and Sound to other young people because they can get the same help I did.
“Thank you for being my support”
Thanks for everything that you have done. I am a much better person now my life is sorted. Now I am much happier.
“I had lost all self-respect but through working with Safe and Sound, I realised there was something wrong”
I loved coming to Safe and Sound and I really don’t want to think about what my life would be like now if I hadn’t been able to get help
Hi I just want you to know that an hour with you is like a fortnights holiday for my brain, and I thank you for being there for me, I really do. x
Emily thought that the 24-year-old woman who had approached her online was her friend. The woman made Emily feel important and grown up – showing interest in her life and then started buying her gifts that she had wanted for ages.
FAMILY A’S STORY
Safe and Sound has expanded its services to support the families of children and young people who are victims of or at risk of exploitation. This is in recognition firstly that situations at home can increase a young person’s vulnerabilities to exploitation and, secondly, that child exploitation deeply affects not only the young person but their wider family.
Jane (not her real name) lives with her siblings and adoptive parents having previously experienced abuse. She has post-traumatic stress disorder and development delay.
Like many young people during the pandemic, 11-year-old Lisa really missed face to face contact with her friends and spent increasing amounts of time on social media and online chat forums.
FAMILY B’S STORY
Families coming to the UK from Eastern Europe in search of a better life are particularly vulnerable to exploitation for a number of reasons and Safe and Sound is a key part of the city’s successful New and Emerging Communities Project.
