Virtual Five Parks Ride 2021

A cycle tour of 5 lovely parks in Derby in your own time, get active, raise money for Safe & Sound and have a chance at winning some prizes!

At Safe and Sound, we support children, young people and families who are affected or at risk of exploitation. our vital work ensures that individuals receive the support they need to move forwards with their lives.

Safe and Sound has increased support by 50% to keep up with demand for our services. We are aware that COVID-19 has created additional pressure on everyone, but the most vulnerable are now even more vulnerable than before. In order to respond to the increased demand for services, Safe and Sound are looking for new and exciting ways to raise money to support children and young people in Derby and Derbyshire.

Due to Covid-19, this event is taking place virtually and in your own time. We would like to invite you to do a cycle tour of 5 lovely parks in Derby. Enjoy the sights and raise money for Safe and Sound.

How does it work?

To take part, simply apply for a ticket and we will email you our suggested routes and all the information you’ll need to follow it, along with an information sheet that gives you some things to look out for as you cycle around the City’s green spaces plus fundraising packs. In addition to the route map, we’re including an information document that gives you a bit of the history of the parks and some things to look out for as you’re exploring, like City Landmarks or other areas of interest close to the route.

When do I do it?

Whenever you like! Morning, Afternoon or Evening on any day of the week between 14th August and 31st October. It’s virtual so this is your event. you could even do it twice to see how the city looks at different times!

We say ‘suggested route’ as this is a virtual event, so you can start and end where you like (we start and finish in Markeaton Park) or add in extra parks … it’s entirely up to you.

Suggested Route

Our map and route will let you start at any of Markeaton Park, Darley Park, Bass Recreation Ground, Alvaston Park or West End Park (aka Markeaton Recreation Ground) and if you follow our route you’ll visit the other parks in a roughly circular way, ending up back where you started. Almost all of our suggested route is off-road or uses cycle paths to make it easier to ride. If you follow it without exploring the areas you visit, it’s about 11 miles.

All proceeds will support Safe and Sound group.

There will be a chance to win prizes for the following, so make sure you keep us updated with your virtual ride!

  • Best Dressed – fancy, smart, your Team Sky lycra… show us what your wardrobe is made of!
  • Best Fundraiser – We’ll offer a 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize for the top 3 fundraisers – so make sure to set up a JustGiving page!
  • Best photo – aside from your selfie, what’s the best photo of the city you can take on your way around? Show us the Derby we all love.
