Monthly, tax efficient donations

Donate more, pay less

There’s a way to save 20% on your monthly donation – that’s right, you can donate £10 a month, but you’ll only pay £8.

If you’re a higher rate taxpayer, it’s even better – that same £10 donation will only cost you £6.

How does it work? It’s called Payroll Giving. Every month as your paycheque is processed, your pledge to Safe and Sound is donated before tax is applied – so you effectively get a discount on your donation, and the government tops up the rest.

It’s really easy to set up, and we don’t even need your bank details! To find out more about setting up a Payroll Giving Scheme, please get in touch with us.

Isn’t that like Gift Aid?

Sort of. The main difference is that Gift Aid occurs after tax has been applied to your salary and is capped at 25% – so you have to pay the full amount of your pledge. With Gift Aid, a donation of £10 will cost you £10, but the government give us an additional 25% – so the total donation would be £12.50.

For this reason, Gift Aid can be better for larger, one off donations, rather than regular monthly donations. It’s also much less efficient for any higher rate taxpayers, as they can get the 40% relief on their donation beyond the 25% that Gift Aid is capped at.

Can we do it ourselves?

Unfortunately, because it involves tax, you’ll need to speak to us about setting up a Payroll Giving scheme to get the benefits.

That’s not to say that you can’t set up a salary sacrifice scheme internally – your finance team will be able to help if you ask nicely! You won’t get any of the tax benefits outlined above if you do it this way, however.

Selling smiles: Cause Marketing

Do you have a product or a service we can work together on that benefits both of us? Research shows that more than half of all consumers are willing to pay extra for products that support charitable causes – 2/3 say that the charitable support a company gives influences whether they accept a job offer.  We can help with promotion and PR opportunities – have a look at our existing partners
