Last week, it was Autumn half-term for many and Safe and Sound’s Youth Worker, Sally, planned a week jam-packed with fun for children and young people in the City, including table tennis, a trip to the cinema, youth clubs, boxing, and a participation workshop.

The week kicked off with a private cinema screening at QUAD, where families enjoyed a spooky screening of Addams Family 2 with lots of popcorn. For one young boy, it was his first time seeing a film in a cinema and he loved it!

Sally also hosted the first youth club session. The Halloween soap making workshop focussed on self-care and care of others. The group learnt about essential oils and how their scents can help ease stress, anxiety, and aid sleep. The session was made relaxing with music playing in the background to help the young people with confidence building and making new friends.

At the weekly Arboretum Youth Club, there were a number of activities for all interests including a Halloween treasure hunt, clay moulding, football and music. The young people were visited by Derbyshire Police who got stuck in with football games and the treasure hunt.

Sally, Youth Worker at Safe and Sound said: “It was amazing to see the young people getting involved in all the activities, from running around the park trying to find the Halloween characters as part of the treasure hunt, to playing football with the Police who attended, to chilling with music and joining in with arts and crafts. The kids seemed to love it and have an amazing time”

Lucie, New Communities Support Worker said: “It started off quiet in the day, but once the young people turned up it was amazing to see them getting involved”

At the end of the week, Sally held a participation workshop. This was an opportunity for the young people to have their voice heard on what support should be in place for different scenarios, providing them with the opportunity to express their opinions and influence future practice. This was also a chance for the young people to meet new people, have some fun and eat some pizza all whilst making a difference!
